Isobel 'Izzie' Stevens is a headstrong surgery intern who has worked hard all her life to get to where she is. Izzie comes from humble beginnings - she grew up in a trailer park. To pay for medical school, she worked as a lingerie model. Izzie is the most emotional of the interns - she is a real people person. She understands people.


Alex Karev is a whole 'nother story. He is easily disliked because of his arrogance and his brutal honesty. He tells it like it is, with no concern for the emotions of others. However, throughout the show, we've been able to catch a glimpse of a different side of Alex. It becomes clear that he does care about people, but tries not to show it.

the relationship

* SPOILER WARNING *
Alex & Izzie have had an on-and-off relationship throughout season two. In the first season, Izzie showed a blatant dislike for Alex's arrogance. She learns more about his history and sees that there is more to him in season two, but their relationship ends soonafter when Izzie catches Alex with Olivia, a nurse. Then, when Izzie meets Denny, she tells Alex she deserves better, and starts a relationship with Denny - causing Alex to be jealous. Alex lets her go reluctantly, but he still cares about her. In the season two finale, it is he who carries Izzie out. In the beginning of season three, we see that Alex still has feelings for Izzie, but Izzie is not yet ready for a new relationship.
